Aubree's 1st birthday party

Well, all of the planning is past us now. We had Aubree's first birthday yesterday (8/16) afternoon. Everything turned out so well - the weather couldn't have been more beautiful! Aubree had a pretty good nap before people started to arrive, so even that worked in our favor. She had a great time visiting with everyone and playing in the pool for a bit. She wasn't too into the gift opening, so Bob and I did all of that. Sydnee (to the right of Aubree in the picture) got her a bear from Kohls and she started giggling when she saw it. Sydnee even made a card for her - so incredibly sweet!

Before the cake, we did a Polish tradition. In front of the child, you put a piece of bread, shot glass, rosary and coin to see what they grab first. She grabbed the bread - she will never go hungry. The then grabbed the money (she will never go broke). Next came the rosary (she will be religious). She sort of ignored the shot glass (means they will never go thirsty). It's a nice tradition I am happy to help pass on (Bob's family is Polish).

Cake time. It didn't go exactly how I'd hoped. The one time we give our child complete reign over her food and she didn't dig in. She got a few mouthfuls of frosting and even tried to feed some to her cousin, Meghan (on Aubree's left), but quickly decided she didn't want anything more to do with it.

By the end of the party, she was pretty tuckered out and fell asleep on her Papa Rutherford. My sweet girl.

Aubree's 1st birthday party was the cutest event! Having a look at this post was just so interesting. We have also planned a garden party for our son’s first birthday. We have already booked one of the prettiest outdoor NYC venues for this party. Hoping that it will turn out to be brilliant.
